TEMPRIS - Innovative Temperature Measurement System

TEMPRIS

The advantage of iQ-mobil’s TEMPRIS (Temperature Remote Interrogation System) technology is that process parameters can be acquired in real-time, wirelessly and without battery.

TEMPRIS is especially suitable where the following requirements have to be met:

  • wireless data transmission (measurement object in translatory or rotatory motion)
  • battery-free data transmission (energy-saving, environment-friendly, low heat capacity)
  • reproducible high precision measurement data
  • "real-time" measurement data availability

We are currently providing the following ready-made TEMPRIS system solutions:

Ideal Temperature Measurement System

TEMPERATURE is an important physical parameter measured in many scientific and technical fields such as chemistry, pharmacology, medicine, physics, electronics, mechanical engineering, etc. In many cases, it is particularly important to measure and record TEMPERATURE

  • as accurate as possible,
  • as genuine as possible,
  • as reproducible as possible,
  • as immediate as possible (real-time, online),
  • in the widest possible measurement range,
  • over the longest possible period of time.

Frequently, these objectives are only partially achieved.

This is due to the use of conventional temperature sensors (thermometer, thermo elements, thermo resistors, etc.), which tend to falsify and delay (hysteresis sensor response versus time) measurement results due to

  • the sensor’s thermal capacity (thermal mass),
  • the electrical energy required for sensor operation,
  • heat transmission and/or thermal conduction through power and/or data cables.

These problems were and still are commonly tackled by either using "local data loggers" or by deploying battery-powered (radio) data transmission facilities to avoid trouble-prone cables. However, these methods cause a significant if not inadmissible thermal capacity increase in the measurement set-up with the aforementioned undesired consequences. Batteries frequently prove to be inadequate, undesirable, or even forbidden in specific measurement environments.

The "real-time availability" of measurement data (e.g., for process control purposes) usually is another important aspect of the application. The use of wired sensors is particularly costly in environments with moving measurement objects and devices (translatory or rotatory motion; e.g., assembly lines, centrifuges, shafts, bearings, etc.). Not only are wired sensors difficult and costly to install in such environments (trailing cables, slip rings, etc.), they inflict further disadvantages when in operation (susceptibility to interference, high maintenance costs, etc.).

Conclusion: an "ideal" temperature measurement system should include the following features:

  • wireless (without cable supply)
  • battery-free (no need for integrated energy/power supply)

TEMPRIS Control Unit

The TEMPRIS Control Unit (IRU) is available in two different versions:

  • IRU LAB: Table-top unit for LABoraties

IRU LAB comes with an integrated colour LCD display and a touch-screen user interface.

IRU LAB operates in stand-alone mode (without PC/laptop, etc.), thus offering all advantages of a portable measuring instrument. IRU-LAB only requires an antenna to be connected to become fully operational. This makes it the perfect solution for laboratory and/or test environments.

    TEMPRIS IRU LAB

  • IRU PRO: Control unit for integration/installation in PROduction processes/plants

IRU-PRO transmits the measuring data directly to the control unit (e.g., SPS, etc.) of the production plant. I.e., the measuring data is online (in real-time) available for manufacturing process control purposes.

The data generated by IRU-PRO can simultaneously be transferred to a PC for archiving and analysis purposes. IRU-PRO supports flexible connectivity through different interfaces.

TEMPRIS Applications

The TEMPRIS family of temperature sensors is designed for accurate, convenient and reliable process measurement for pharmaceutical, medical device, food processing and other industrial applications.

The wireless and battery-free design of the TEMPRIS sensors simplifies online-monitoring in severe and hard-to-reach environments.

Based on this technology, we are currently providing ready-made system solutions such as:

TEMPRIS system solutions for other applications such as the following are either planned or already under development:

  • vacuum dryers
  • sterilisers
  • ovens
  • retorts
  • tunnels
  • temperature chambers
  • stability chambers
